Zack watched the door bang shut behind her, then peeled back the sheet and rose from the bed, mumbling an oath under his breath.

She was like a female Jekyll and Hyde—beautiful lover by night, prim and proper professor by day. He snatched his jeans off the floor and shoved a foot into them. He didn’t need this kind of aggravation in his life.

Here she was, all worried about people thinking she was compromising her standards, when he was the one who was actually in danger of doing that. Another session or two like the one they’d shared last night and he’d turn the movie into a documentary on earwax if Kate said he should.

He yanked on his T-shirt so hard it nearly ripped. Good Lord, but the sex had been incredible—beyond incredible. Mind-blowing. Stupendous. Hell, he wouldn’t be surprised if there were scorch marks on the sheets. Even now he wanted to pull her back into bed, peel off all her clothes, and make wild, tender, hot-and-bothered love to her until she made that sweet, surprised cry of release. The woman should be classified as an addictive substance.

But damn it all—He didn’t need a complication like this right now. He didn’t need anything or anyone diverting him from his movie.

If he had any sense at all, he’d be grateful she’d called things off.

The problem was, he didn’t have any sense when it came to Kate. And gratitude was not among the dark tangle of emotions that knotted his gut as the approaching whir of Jean-Pierre’s airboat signaled an end to their stay in the swamp.
